The road to re-integration into society and to re-gaining the capacity to live a full life despite the loss of sight is full of obstacles. Our aim is to help our clients overcome these obstacles, and thus reduce the negative effects that serious visual impairment may bring. Our priority is to motivate our clients to live active lives and to learn to cope with the majority daily activities on their own, and thus help them re-integrate in society.
- For clients from Brno and the areas with public transport access, The Day-Care Centre provides:
- extra time and support to clients with reduced adaptability, namely those who lost sight during their adult life and who need increased attention to learn to be self-sufficient;
- quality leisure time activities, such as therapeutic clubs, lectures, discussions, or excursions, for clients who cannot find jobs;
- a number of training courses enhancing independence and self-sufficiency, re-integration in society and work; comprehensive information and counselling services connected with serious visual impairment;
- The Operating centre of the assistant services for the visually impaired
- Personal guide-service and reading service;
- Assistance in shopping (clothing and food) for the visually impaired living alone
- Support in the elimination of architectonic barriers, especially in the city of Brno
We run the following basic programmes:
- A youth programme for young people, who have been unable to find employment after finishing their education (we offer social communication courses, job clubs, industrial relations advice, training courses)
- A programme for severely visually-impaired senior citizens (assistance, geriatric lectures, involvement in leisure time activities)
- Training courses with additional rehabilitation, especially for the newly blinded (group Braille readings , food preparation and table manners courses, social communication courses, learning how to use aids)
- Motivating leisure time activities: manual skills courses (knitting, pottery), cultural and sporting activities (trips, excursions, contests, typhlomobile independent mobility contest, show down, etc.)
- Counselling - general and social legislation advice and counselling
In all programmes, we offer either on-site services in our centre, or off-site services in our client's homes, workplaces, schools or at offices and authorities.
